The food was one of the best i had during my stay in Germany. The restaurant is located at a restored cellar, with a medieval character (staff also dressed in medieval cloths). I have to say the food was delicious, we all ordered something different and we enjoyed every dish. The service was friendly and prompt.
Intimate restaurant in the basement close to the Dresden Zwinger. Historical interiors and staff in national clothes immerse you in the 18th century era. And of course delicious and hearty Saxon cuisine with many local beers. Very cool!
A very original restaurant with delicious coffee and cake. We recommend. Also a visual pleasure
Were there on October 28th, 2020 and booked for the 31st. The ambience and the furnishings were beautifully medieval, the service was very good, quick and also available for small talk. The food was very, very good, and went relatively quickly. All in all, a successful evening and definitely worth a visit.
friendly service
Although the food is plentiful and the ambience unusual, I was personally disappointed. The fact that caraway seeds in sauerkraut should be a spice and not an ingredient is probably very subjective, but very unfriendly service, which also gives incorrect advice, prevents a better rating - even if your colleague was able to improve the rating in the end.
We have been to the Sophienkeller several times and each time it was a delicious experience. If you fancy Saxon cuisine, you are in very good hands here. The premises are great! We felt very comfortable.
The Sophien Keller is a must when you go to Dresden. You come into a vaulted cellar and are greeted warmly. There are seats at the table of a reconstructed, medieval army camp or in the vault. The food is great! I can warmly recommend the duck and the suckling pig.
Nice ambience, matching the old town. Correspondingly, the food is traditionally served with a delicious beer. Of course we didn't have all of the dishes, but we found our dishes tasty and plentiful. No star cuisine, we didn't expect either! We look forward to your next visit and will recommend you to others.
So first of all thank you very much for the great evening. From the outside a normal house, but you can recommend it to everyone. We travel a lot but I can only recommend everyone to eat there once. Ambience is an eye-catcher. My tip "it's worth looking at every single room" Many restaurants can learn a lot about the friendliness of the staff. The food was very good even if it was too much for us :). Thanks keep it up.
On Saturday evening without a reservation it is difficult to get a place, as everywhere at the moment. Luck was on our side and got a table for 2. Very friendly the service and then the food ... delicious. Expand so?
Had a great evening in the restaurant. The food was delicious and the service perfect.
Great atmosphere, delicious food, fast and friendly service. I had the sauerbraten my wife the venison goulash. We had the bread basket with avocado dip as a starter and vanilla strudel with ice cream and whipped cream as a dessert. We'd love to come back ?
We were in Sophienkeller on August 29th, 2020 and loved it. You were quickly shown to the table and the service was very friendly and quick. In between, people were always asked carefully whether they still had a wish or the plates of the food they had eaten were quickly cleared away. The stripped-down menu due to Corona was very small, but completely sufficient for us - so the choice was not that difficult. We decided on Soljanka, suckling pig, beef roulade, 2 nut cups, alcohol-free Jever and raspberry lemonade. Everything tasted very good, the dishes were at the right temperature and left nothing to be desired. Overall, we spent a little over 2 hours there. Conclusion: an all-round successful evening with great food and drinks, all-round friendly staff and a coordinated atmosphere.
Discovered by chance last year, we finally wanted to come here to eat on our visit to Dresden this year. The setting is just great, the staff dressed appropriately. You are greeted in a friendly manner and get a table without any problems, but we were there at lunchtime. Questions about ingredients were answered professionally and even asked the cook again and alternatives were offered. The drinks came to the table quickly and the food just as quickly. Cold drinks, hot food ... that's how we want it. We were not disappointed, neither with the service nor the food. Everything was very tasty and fresh. We would love to come back on our next visit.
Would you like to eat in the Middle Ages atmosphere with the appropriate facilities and very nice staff, then you are at the right place. The food tastes fantastic, the prices are very acceptable for this service.
Very nice old-fashioned restaurant, the staff walking around in costumes. The food is wonderful, there is currently a limited Corona menu. The staff is very friendly, reservations should be made for larger groups.
Typical atmosphere, a little touristy but the beer is excellent and the dishes well executed. There is some animation with accordion and violin and local songs, good if you speak German. Friendly waiters, best to book
Very nice restaurant with good cuisine. The service was without exception friendly and helpful. Dealing with children was also unparalleled friendly and exemplary. We had an all-round successful lunch in the outdoor area of the restaurant. Price-performance ratio is good, the food is very appealing both in taste and quantity.
The food and the ambience ensure a unique experience. If you are lucky you will even get a little song from the musician.
Delicious typical restaurant food in a nice atmosphere. If you sit outside you have a direct view of the kennel. Our two main dishes were super tasty and very generous in the portion so you definitely get full. The staff was very friendly. The prices are typical for the inner city of Dresden not cheap, but they are within reasonable limits.
Amazing Food and Wine!!
The food was very tasty. We had beef roulade and schnitzel. The prices were normal. The service was very friendly and recommended the homemade water-melon lemonade. I can only recommend this ?. Overall, a very good impression.
The schnitzel was correct but no more. The staff is friendly. The restaurant is decorated and the staff dressed with traditional clothes
Everything is just right here. Central location, great atmosphere in different rooms under the city. There is even a carousel! Plus mega delicious food in large portions at reasonable prices. Simply outstanding. We spontaneously reserved a table for and were greeted and looked after extremely nicely. Dear Sophienkeller team, you are great, keep up the good work! We would like to come again! Enclosed in the pictures our dishes ...
Overrated - food mediocre and overpriced. Popular with tourist groups it seems ....
Good food and Excellent service!
Delicious food and beer in a fancy environment. Friendly and amusing stuff.

Good goose leg they have here and the atmosphere is nice in the keller
Great for tourists and Germans alike! Excellent food and drink! We had a very sweet and attentive waitress which made it all that much better. If your looking for not only great German food but a bit of kitsch from the olden days look no further!
Great food! Excellent service! We really enjoyed the evening there. The following food was really tasty and the beer&wine selection was properly big enough.
Great Christmas duck and decorations, overly salty potato soup. Charging 2.80€ for 200ml of tea and then refusing to refill with hot water is not okay though. They should provide a pot of hot water with it otherwise this feels like a rip-off.
Very good!!!
The bread is really good

It is like to be in a fairytail, the food was very nice.
i super love this place. was there yesterday and felt very cultural withh all the deco and costume. Good food too, i ordered a knuckle~
Mega
Amazing solyanka, Baltic food, meat and excellent sousage salad as a snack for beer
Were walking around Dresden center close to midnight, found this place on Google Maps. And the place is really good. Large portions and still cheap enough. The waiters were gentle and kind. Has downloadable menus on many languages including Polish, Czech, Russian, Italian, Chinese. Perfect place to have a tight dinner!
Nice place to sit outside and enjoy the old town. Very vegan incompatible.. not even some plant based milk for standard coffee. Unfortunately unkind stuff as well. Not the best experience in Dresden.
Quit disappointed with this one. The soups- one was good and the other (potatoes soup) was quit mediocre, bread was under-baked with raw areas and taste of yeast, the pork dish had dry meat and was unpleasant to eat though the potato ball and the cabbage were nice. The goulash was ok, nothing more than that.
Nice and typical
A bit touristic, but nice food, quick service and lots to see during dinner.
The underground warehouse where wine was stored in the castle long time ago is converted into a restaurant. I ordered and shared various foods with the staff and the atmosphere is really good. The service is excellent and the staff dressed in medieval clothes walk around and create the fantastic atmosphere. You can't make phone calls in the under ground and you can connect to Wi-Fi which will prepared by restaurant.
Nice local german menu dan interior very german
Very nice decoration and good food & service
This place is for foreign tourists
Great food and atmosphere!
